The climate among humans is not one of love, but of contention. This cuts out huge portions of my personality in self-expression, and reduces my enjoyment of life significantly, compared to living among the divine beings. The comic reflects what I've been saying recently, that every ego wants all others dead, or if not dead then under its manipulative control. The parents enter at an early age to prove to the ego that wanting everyone else dead is going to cut out its selfish options, therefore they grow up to cherish families and to seek renown.
The properties of spiritual love are unexpected, and appear cold to the body-identified. If you ask the egos to try for more love, they only try to grasp one another more tightly in a selfish and dominating hold. If you tell those same people to relax the grip and let others have self-expression, ugliness emerges since the ego's energies are dark and unhealthy. The egos require repression, if anyone around them is to have a chance to practice love, for otherwise it is blatantly obvious they are not lovable. This is the awkward place where sadhana occurs.
The higher forms of love are non-grasping and occur as a logical response to the perception of noble attributes. You could say it is a strong love, and the grasping love is a weak love, the former springing from a direct spiritual perception, the latter leaning too much on the senses. Among a group of people who are capable of strong love, the expectations of allowable behaviors tread into regions egos would say are interfering with their private rights. For instance an individual would know he could go eat from available stores when hungry, without asking.
That's only a small example. When the possessions are held loosely and relationships are the treasures people behold, an entirely different and surprising way of life springs from it. These people seem to take one another for granted in some ways, for instance over the questions of food, clothing and other essentials, but this frees up their mental energies for subtler and sweeter personal interactions. The system won't work among egos for many reasons, one of which is that if an ego takes another for granted it is heartless, not caring if the other is in misery.
If an ego tries to move among angels, at first he might think it is swell to simply take his clothes from the dispensary rather than needing to pay for them. He takes more than he really needs, causing the others to wonder with raised brows, but the worst is that he then huddles off in privacy, unable to enter these higher modes of personal interaction. "I've got my objects, what else is there?" he wonders. Then he starts thinking of finding a mate and dragging her off to privacy, so he decides he'd better try to interact with people, though it is distasteful to him.
Ridicule is a surprisingly destructive force against loving society, but among egos it is merely a symptom of a deep disquiet over the joy of others. The reaction of rejoicing when another is miserable comes from a place far below conscious access, so that for egos to try to live in harmony requires continuous repression of such urges, usually only succeeding at the gate of speech, not within the mind. If the egos could cease from all ridicule, they would still seethe inwardly, and this repression has negative effects cropping up in unexpected places, that so far have resulted in the dissolution of every significant communitarian effort. The Hutterites appear to have overcome this barrier at first glance, but they also feverishly await Heaven at the Second Coming, and devolved into a family clan, so they are not operating in wisdom.
True rejoicing at the joy of another opens the door to a radically different form of society, with an advanced and stable social climate that is beyond what egos can either perceive or achieve. This means, further, rejoicing at their selfless joy, not selfish pleasures, so it is a love emerging out of strength, both for loving and being lovable. You don't eliminate ridicule from this society, it just never appears in the root, like a nightmare you hear about occasionally in tales of the world, but never experience. This love requires an absence of every tendency to manipulate, dominate, or belittle, and it requires a warm response to the intellectual and emotional presence of others, that you support.
The egos are not prepared to enter Heaven, and would make a mess of it if they did. If they see Heaven they'd hate it, from dark energies of theirs which can never commingle with the light and pure energies of angels. These two, the divine and mundane, are incommensurate.
The question about Judgment, is how soon the Lord's higher perspective is to be made relevant to all people. Money is obviously part of personal enmity. Put into a place of significant power over human affairs, I will devastate most of their ideas of goodness. I am a problem for the Holy Spirit at present, since I am the stable and logical one announcing that humans are lunatics, and where I am correct about it. Such an individual has never been welcomed on the Earth, and if I am welcomed anywhere or everywhere, human history is nullified by my living presence. Supposing that the angels welcome me but the news reporters treat me as they are treating A. J. Miller, I'll write comedies and essays belittling them and running intellectual circles around whatever language they thought would protect their selfish desires from God's scrutiny. It is not possible to oppose me logically; all the humans can do is plead impotence and incognizance, they are not gods so they don't do things in the divine manner. The fully divine beings would have made radically different decisions to all those guiding human history.
One thing about the humans, is that pretense and playfulness never mix, so much of the fun they might have had together is destroyed. Humans are like antimatter bombs, with respect to ecstatic potential. They are like sandpaper drawn across the face, or heavy clamps put on a musical instrument to deaden it. You were playing the guitar, but a selfish human comes by to place both hands over all the strings, shouting, "Mine!" and you can hardly play any more. Really they are incredibly effective at cutting the heart out of life. If I've tried to speak about good, clean fun, I sure haven't been allowed to express myself that way, among the "deadeners," who keep intoning inwardly, "We only see matter, you must also be an object in our life, no one is alive here, we only follow our greed." Osho tried to assail Jesus as failing to be fun, but Osho was the actual spoil-sport, and the Lord's fun doesn't really coexist with an ego's grabbing. Seeing the angels at sport, the humans would probably say they seem childish or naïve, but it is actually great power to be able to be serious at the right times, and playful at the right times. Only after the questions of being are thoroughly faced, can true fun begin. Before this you're not really justified if you laugh.
There isn't any room for play in a pen filled with hogs, and the humans are no less unresponsive, turning away grunting to their slop for any attempts to interact with them on a higher plane of awareness than raw physical grabbing. A man enmeshed in private pursuits kills the joy of everyone around him, and Easwaran was also such a man. His ashram was not a "mart of joy," as the disciples said about Ramakrishna. If you don’t have a direct spiritual perception, you don't know there is another person that can be joyful, and you don't "trade" in the mart of joy, which is to say acting in ways that enhance the joyous mood around you. Joy is like a commodity to the angels, and relationships are their "things." They don't have patience for private ownership, for their minds are filled with treasures of interactions, material goods held loosely at the borders of social awareness. You have to perceive the "thing," which is the spirit underlying the body, before you can "trade."
See, the relationship is not a "thing" to these girls. They are unable to perceive the spiritual dynamic, where as two spirits encountering one another they have a chance to exercise powers and grow. Instead their minds are externalized, each crowding around sense objects as their "things." In
Meet Me in St. Louis (1944), the egoic girl is unable to treasure the snowmen that she and her siblings made, where the angels by contrast may want to spend a lot of time together doing things like that in the winter, perhaps creating big fields of snow creatures.
The heart of innocent delight looks childish and naïve to egos, but this is because they are only brought to projects like this from sensate variation. For awhile their senses are entranced with a different experience, but when the senses start getting used to it, they decide they are "too mature" for that kind of thing, and they start building families and accumulating possessions instead, which is all the ego can think about for adults. The heart of innocent delight is actually sophisticated and powerful, harming neither planet nor spirit, rejoicing in creation.
In order to create meaning in living once the senses no longer supply a thrill, a kind of folding over against the ordinary senses is required. This folding over insists that living spirit is still present, and though the experience is no longer new it is entered anew at a deeper level of awareness and significance. The angels seldom say, "We did that yesterday." Instead they like to repeat the sweet events of innocent delight, that for them are not experienced as repetitions. They experience this as a beautiful backdrop for an exuberant spiritual expansion.
It is hard to say this because it is contrary to every egoic tendency, but there are a limited number of possible events on a real created world, and some of these, like making snowmen or pitching horseshoes, offer a rich and endless variation in their repetition. What is needed is potent beings who value and cherish such experiences, recognizing they're building a meaningful structure in eternity worth remembering. It means a vision of the realm of pure spirit, so you know each act of yours has an effect, as spirit everywhere continues to grow in beauty.
The angels if they reveal their full powers, will constantly be found getting excited about many things which bore egos to tears. This is the potency of spirit revealed in a practical manner, and if you are not "up to speed" with angelic regard, you won't enjoy living among them. In a community you can actually build a magnificent behind-the-scenes architecture of relationships, if the participants are able to see these as "things," more real than the objects that support embodiment. There is no end to the thrill, but it is characterized in ways maddening to egos.
For instance, some child may discover a flower no one has seen growing in that region before. The egos say, "Ho, hum," but the angels get really excited, so there are many sojourns to examine the flower, and some debates on how its seed happened to travel so far from its usual runs. There are many trips where the angels say, "There is a yellow lady's slipper at so-and-so location, we must go see it." Then every year they go to see if it has survived the winter, that's exciting too! We all know about that lady's slipper, and care what happens to it.
I have perceived that all beings are surrounded by a terrible darkness, which is the void. There is only one way out of this darkness, which is clinging to the lotus feet of Brahman, the Source of All. The lesser beings do not perceive the void, for they are unaware of the spiritual nature of their own existence. The soul-shaking angst, is catching sight of this terrible void. It makes the person sober, longing for salvation.
In the vast sweep of history, the humans have been arising without awareness of death, growing old and dying very much as the animals do, just ceasing to function one day with no awareness of what occurs in spirit at that time. However, a large culture has arisen of apparent response to death, with the humans reporting they have investigated the question to their own satisfaction. These are like animal minds, seeing the other bodies fall and attempting to reason about their own body's fall, but never really achieving accurate thought about a soul with an existence separate from sense experience, and reporting satisfaction from inadequate discrimination, to know when truth was found.
Humans are quick to claim experience of spirit, but there are a large variety of mental experiences which are precursors to knowledge of the soul. Easwaran was still enmeshed in these, and could not speak authentically about spirit, since most of his mind was still arrayed in response to the senses. The fig tree won't bear fruit until its season, and unless the perfectly inoffensive personality is obtained in sahaja samadhi, the forms of divine personality, arising in awareness of spirit, do not appear. As the humans are claiming experience of spirit, it is mainly posturing for domination, in the arena of human attention. None has experienced the soul-shaking angst, that prevents false claims.
You could say the trouble of the ego is that it won't face the unknown with humility. Despite daily examples in its own life where it thought smugly that it knew all needful things, but was shown differently by changing circumstances, it is not able to begin forming ideas about the unknown as being vast and mysterious, certainly beyond its powers of comprehension. The gurus don't have this yet. They strut around saying they have known the infinite, but they only say this to dominate over their crowds of gullible sadhus who'd also like to dominate by such shallow speech. The angels follow a different model, that reality is profound and the greatest angels have understood the ineffable better than the rest, but still not to the ultimate degree. This is a standard by which the ocean of humans, and sea of the angels, separate.
I can go a step further here, even more devastating against humans, that the angels gain a property of regarding existence and its potential as spectacular. They can see spirit and its glories. The humans are unable to think of existence as mysterious in this way, an unfolding of miraculous potential, and it is because they lack sufficient ecstasy or any perspective from above the senses. A human child may feel wonder about a flower opening, but it lasts about three seconds, because the wonder is based solely on a material perception. The angels are always poised over the eternally opening flower of spiritual glory, and they never lose interest, noticing that it goes on expanding forever.
The gurus have not yet seen that existence is glorious, which is something of a "private affair" of the Lord and His noble friends. They can only talk about pleasures and domination, which is to say dualistic goods, as they cavort before the sadhus, who also want more of the same. To understand that there is a glorious potential of spirit, could be called the authentic vision of God. The Personal God and the Impersonal God are seen to merge, when it is admitted the Personality of the Deity is so strange to the creatures, as to be unknowable in eternity. But to see that spirit has a selfless quality, is the vision of eternal growth necessary for the higher dharma to proceed, in its beauty.
As with Christianity, I see the Holy Spirit coming in the New Age with a story that could nearly pass as correct. The Holy Spirit likes to keep reflections of truth, though the members of the group are inadequate to express it. The challenge between angels and sadhus, if these sadhus continue attempting to know reality from its downside end rather than from on top, above the senses, is over authentic interpretation.
The difference is rapidly seen if you notice the sadhus do not really like one another, cooperate poorly in groups, and cling to the family. The angels perceive one another's intrinsic traits, and these traits are noble, inherently valuable. By logic they apply affection, and the game is over, they have defeated the humans just by getting out of bed each morning. But angelic potencies build and ascend, from here.
